Rabat, Morocco – The holy month of Ramadan will begin Tuesday in Morocco although the majority of the Muslim countries have started fasting Monday.

‘The month of Sha’ban (Morocco) will be held on the 30th day on Monday and the 1st of the holy month of Ramadan 1432 AH, corresponding to Tuesday, 2 August,’ according to a statement issued Sunday by the Ministry of Habous (religious property) and Islamic Affairs.

Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam in which Muslims must abstain from drinking, eating, smoking and sexual intercourse from sunrise to sunset.

It is also a month of piety, devotion and solidarity with the poor.
