Morocco: HM the King Inaugurates and Launches Important Projects for Economic and Social Development of the Province of Jerada

Jerada — The Royal Initiative for the development of Morocco’s Eastern region has been strengthened by new achievements with HM King Mohammed VI’s inauguration and launch, on Saturday in the province of Jerada, of several projects aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the province’s economy and improving the citizen’s living conditions.

The Sovereign launched the wastewater project in the Guenfouda centre (Jerada Province), put into service the first phase of the economic activity area of Jerada, and inaugurated a multi-purpose social centre in the commune of Ain Bni Mathar.

The protection of the environment, boosting investment, setting up small and medium enterprises by young people, and improving the lives of the inhabitants of the region, are the main goals of these projects worth nearly 26 million dirhams.

The wastewater project aims to preserve the quality of groundwater and surface water resources from pollution, and fight sanitary risks associated with the possible reuse of raw sewage in agriculture.

The 17 million dirham project, which is due for completion within 12 months, consists of building a wastewater treatment station with a capacity of 252 cubic metres, building a wastewater discharging station, setting up 12 km of pipelines and building three storm water overflows.

This project will enable to treat 84 cubic metres of wastewater per day by 2030 and reduce the organic pollutant load by 80%.

As to the economic activity area, it will enhance the province’s economic attractiveness through an optimal exploitation of the potential it has offer.

The area, which spans on 7.45 ha, is expected to generate some 52 million dirhams in investments and about 540 jobs.

On this occasion, the Sovereign handed ownership documents to the beneficiaries of this first phase.

Regarding the Ain Bni Mathar multi-purpose social centre, it was set up as part of the National Initiative for Human Development for 1.7 million dirhams.

The centre dedicated to women and children is intended to train and qualify women and girls in professions that make them economically and socially independent, and promote income-generating activities.
