Reichle & De-Massri To Open Cable Sales Office In Morocco





Swiss copper and fibre cable maker Reichle & De-Massari will open a sales office in Morocco, where rollouts are progressing, LTE licences have just been awarded and satellite licences are being auctioned.

The 800-employee Swiss company hopes this new market will allow it to raise its revenue, which increased by 7.3 percent to USD 226 million in 2014, reports Agence Ecofin. It is currently building a data centre for Swisscom in Bern.

Western Sahara: Security Council Rejects Algeria’s Demand

The Security Council adopted on Tuesday a resolution extending by one year, until 30 April 2016, the MINURSO mandate. The resolution that did not introduce any change to the UN mission’s prerogatives in Western Sahara dealt a blow to Algeria, which had called for the extension of the MINURSO mandate to human rights monitoring.
The resolution was tabled jointly by the United States, France, Spain and the United Kingdom and was adopted unanimously by the 15 members of the Security Council. (more…)

Trust Re Opens Representative Office In Morocco

Bahrain-based reinsurance firm Trust Re has opened a representative office in Casablanca, Morocco.

The public limited company, Trust International Insurance and Reinsurance Company, functions as a regional office to serve Trust Re’s clients in North, Central and West Africa, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN),our sister publication.

Under its current Casablanca Finance City (CFC) status, Trust Re said it enjoys significant advantages including being part of Morocco’s financial landscape. (more…)

Greener Morocco

A £96m project will promote cleaner and more efficient energy in Morocco.

The Clean and Efficient Energy Project will be co-financed by a US$125 million (£80m) World Bank loan and a US$23.95 million (£16m) loan from a global initiative, the Clean Technology Fund.

It will support Morocco’s state-owned electricity and water company Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable (ONEE) to develop its first set of three mid-sized solar plants. (more…)

Morocco Pledges $1 mn In Relief To Quake-Ravaged Nepal

Morocco has decided to provide $1 million in emergency assistance to the earthquake victims in Nepal, the foreign ministry said.

“Upon high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has decided to provide $1 million in emergency grant aid to the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, following the devastating earthquake that hit Saturday, April 25, 2015, several regions of the country, causing considerable human casualties and economic losses,” the ministry said in a statement quoted by MAP news agency.
