Washington – Twelve US congressmen have underlined that the social and political reforms that the July 1 referendum to Morocco’s constitution addresses “represent significant progress.”

“The social and political reforms that this referendum addresses represent significant progress toward achieving an efficient representative government,” they said in a letter to HM King Mohammed VI.

In this connection, they said they “welcome the progress that these new constitutional reforms will bring to the Kingdom,” hailing the success of the referendum “as a more democratic and humanitarian way to serve the citizens.”

The referendum, they said, “represents a considerable step toward meeting the political desires and social freedoms” of the citizens and “stands as an important milestone.”

The congressmen also welcomed the establishment of the National Council of Human Rights (CNDH) and the Economic and Social Council, which reinforce human rights such as gender quality, the rights of children and young people and those of vulnerable groups.
