WASHINGTON, June 17 (BERNAMA-NNN-MAP) — Morocco is a regional leader in the field of renewable energy as evidenced by the plan set up through the commitment of King Mohammed VI which makes it “extremely appealing to U.S. investors,” says Leocadia I. Zak, director of United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

“U.S. investors are encouraged by the plan and the interest and commitment of the sovereign,” Zak said Monday on the sidelines of the visit of a Moroccan delegation representing the solar energy sector to California.

The members of the delegation, part of a trade mission organised by USTDA, represented mainly the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN), National Agency for Development of Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (ADEREE), National Society of Transport and Logistics (SNTL), National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), and Energy Investment Corporation (SIE).

The STDA director highlighted the willingness of the U.S. agency to take part in Morocco’s efforts to achieve the production of 20 gigawatt (GW) of solar energy by 2020.

He said the welcome extended to the Moroccan delegation in California reflected “a real desire on the part of the American business community to establish partnerships with Morocco in this field”.
