Morocco Receives Bids For 850MW Tender

Moroccan state utility ONEE has received five bids to develop, design, finance, construct, operate and maintain five facilities totalling 850MW under a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) contract for a 20-year term.

The five bidders are: Acciona; EDF Energies with Alstom, QWEC of Qatar and FIPAR of Morocco; ACWA Power of Saudi Arabia with Gamesa; Nareva Holding of Morocco with Enel Green Power and Siemens; International Power (GDF Suez) with Vestas.

The projects are located at Midelt (150MW), Tiskrad (300MW), Tangier II (100MW), Jbel Lahdid 200MW, and Boujdour 100MW.

Bidders must include plans for the local manufacture or assembly of components, such as towers, blades, nacelles, rotors and electrical equipment.

The projects will be built under a public-private partnership with ONEE, the Energy Investment Company (SIE) and the Hassan II Fund for Economic and Social Development, which all state owned.

ONEE has secured concessional finance from the European Investment Bank, KfW, the European Union and the African Development Bank towards the projects at Tangier, Midelt and Jbal Lahdid.
