On the political side, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Major General Abdul Hafiz of Bangladesh as the Force Commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

On the business side, according to Morocco’s Tourism Ministry, a total of 4.2 million tourists visited the country during the first half of 2011, a rise of 6.3 per cent compared with the same period last year.
