Ankara – Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani held, on Tuesday in Ankara, talks with Turkish Parliament Speaker, Cemil Cicek, on ways to strengthen Parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and Turkey.

In this regard, El Otmani proposed the creation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee between Morocco and Turkey, which will meet annually to discuss topics of interest to both parliamentary institutions.

The commission is likely to enable more coordination between the two parliaments and further consolidate their cooperative relations, said El Otmani, who was accompanied by Morocco’s ambassador to Ankara, Mohamed Lotfi Aouad.

Such initiatives have proven its merit in other countries, said the Foreign Minister.

For his part, the Turkish Parliament Speaker welcomed the idea of creating this Commission, stating that he will have the opportunity to further discuss it with the Moroccan MPs soon.

Cicek also expressed his admiration and regard for the reforms undertaken in Morocco and which allowed the Kingdom to stand as “successful model” in the region, in a difficult environment.

He particularly welcomed the adoption of a new constitution, the holding of elections and the creation of a new government led by the party that won the polls, adding that the environment is conducive to achieve rapprochement between the two countries at all levels.

El Otmani arrived on Sunday in Ankara where he held extensive talks with his counterpart, Ahmet Davutoglu, which focused on ways to strengthen cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels.

He was also received by President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
