The Moroccan government announced on Tuesday the dismantling of a terrorist cell linked to the Islamic State after an operation carried out in the town of Nador (northeast) and its surroundings that has resulted in the arrest of four suspects.

The Moroccan Interior Ministry has indicated in a statement that the Central Office of Judicial Investigations (OCIJ) carried out the operation as a result of intelligence information on the activities of this cell, whose members include the brother of an Islamic State fighter. .

Thus, he has indicated that the suspects had decided to carry out terrorist attacks against « sensitive places » in the country and added that they had ties to another cell dismantled in December 2019 in cooperation with the Spanish security forces, as reported by the Moroccan state agency de news, MAP.

The Ministry has highlighted that the suspects are at the disposal of the authorities in the framework of the investigations. The OCIJ, created in 2015, has dismantled in recent years dozens of alleged terrorist cells in the African country.
