Rabat – Morocco denounced the attack perpetrated on Thursday against Algeria’s consular staff in the northern Mali town of Gao and expressed solidarity with the Algerian people and relatives of the kidnapped.

Speaking to MAP following the kidnapping of seven Algerian consular diplomats by an unknown group, Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani denounced this attack and expressed solidarity with the Algerian people, the abducted and their families.

The Moroccan official called for guaranteeing the physical integrity of the kidnapped diplomats and for ensuring their safe return to their relatives.

The Minister added that he extended to his Algerian peer Mourad Medelci Morocco’s solidarity with the Algerian people as well as with the hostages and their families.

Algerian Foreign Minister had announced earlier on Thursday that Algeria’s consul in Gao and six consular officials were kidnaped by an unknown group and that their whereabouts remain unknown.

In this connection, Otmani said that the crisis in Mali “can only be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means”.
