Rabat – Moroccan League for the Defense of Human Rights called on the international community to intervene to ensure the protection of the Sahrawis held against their will in Tindouf camps (Algeria’s south-west) and to pile up pressure on the Algerian government in order to allow their census by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

In a statement released on Wednesday after its national convention, the League called for “regularizing the situation of Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud who has only expressed his views about the (Moroccan) autonomy proposal.” The NGO also urged for “ensuring the right of this citizen to family reunification and movement in order to end his forced exile in Mauritania.”

On another chapter, the League urged the government to “take the necessary decisions to solve social problems accumulated in a comprehensive approach and in the context of a proactive social policy taking into account the claims of citizens.”
