Rabat – Morocco lauded, on Saturday, the agreement between Mali’s military council and the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), calling for implementing as soon as possible this agreement which marks a positive stride on the track of resuming political life.
Foreign minister Saad-Dine El Otmani said in a statement that Morocco will continue its efforts so that peace and stability resume in the Sahel region, underlining that the Kingdom, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, will spare no effort to reach this goal.

The said agreement provides for transferring power to civilians and holding presidential elections.

The minister reiterated Morocco’s stand on the self-proclaimed independence from Mali by the desert Tuaregs of what they call the state of “Azawad”.

He described this unilateral step as “utterly unacceptable” by the Kingdom of Morocco considering its serious impact on peace, security and stability in the whole region.
