Japanese JTEKT Corporation started building a plant for production of electric power steering systems in northern Moroccan city of Tangier on Monday.

The launching of the construction works was chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Industry Moulay Hafid Elalamy and JTEKT President Tetsuo Agata.

The plant is expected to start production in 2020.

With 22 million U.S. dollars initial investment, the factory aims to reach an initial production capacity of 300,000 units a year.

It will provide a direct supply for the growing automobile industry in Morocco as well as export to other markets.
