German multinational opens office in Lagos

BASF, a German chemical multinational company with presence in Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and South Africa, has opened a regional office in Lagos on Tuesday to serve customers in Nigeria and other West African countries.

The company is the world’s leading chemical company. Its portfolio ranges from chemicals, plastics, performance products and crop protection products to oil and gas. It combines economic success, social responsibility and environmental protection. Through science and innovation, the company enables its customers in almost all industries to meet the current and future needs of society.

BASF posted sales of about €73.5 billion in 2011 and had more than 111,000 employees as at the end of the year. BASF shares are traded on the stock exchanges in Frankfurt (BAS), London (BFA) and Zurich (AN).

BASF, which has been active in Africa for 90 years, is coming in to play in the booming construction sector. BASF is offering, in this respect, energy-saving chemical materials that will be mixed with concretes for construction of homes, commercial buildings and bridges. BASF is partnering with Julius Berger in the construction of the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge which is set for completion in November 2012.
