Casablanca – Secretary-General of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), Habib Benyahya, said, Saturday in Casablanca, that the upcoming Maghreb Summit, due in Tunisia late this year, would be a historic opportunity to revitalize the Union, hoping that it will impart fresh momentum to this grouping for the benfit of the peoples and the security of the region.

“We hope that the upcoming AMU Summit will make it possible to fulfil the wishes and ideas advocated by the founding fathers of the Union,” Benyahya said at the opening session of the first Maghreb forum dedicated to the sons of martyrs of independence of the Maghreb countries.

He pointed out that the current political climate in the Arab world, especially in the Maghreb region, requires a true desire to revitalize the stumbling Union, and that trade between the Maghreb countries, which hardly exceeds 3%, remains very low.
