Bird & Bird has become the latest firm to enter the Morocco market after sealing an alliance with Casablanca’s El Amari & Associates. El Amari’s founding and managing partner, Mohieddine El Amari, has an existing relationship with Bird & Bird, having worked with the firm on joint projects in Paris. The firm said the move had come due to Morocco’s significance to its clients in several of its key sectors, including energy, aviation, automotive, food and drink, financial services and IT. The firm is also hoping to win work on the back of Morocco’s recently-enacted Data Protection Act. The cooperation agreement is non-exclusive, as are the UK firm’s other formal associations in Portugal, Malaysia and China. Bird & Bird France head Frederique Dupuis-Toubol said: “This agreement formalises our relationship with El Amari and strengthens our connections in the North and sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East region, which we have established with our recently opened office in Abu Dhabi. This region has great significance for our client base.” (…)
