Morocco Attracts 207 Mln U.S. Dollars Green Funds

Morocco continues to attract green funds as the first Green Climate Fund (GCF) agreed to contribute to the financing of a new water conservation project in Morocco worth 207 million US dollars, local media reported on Friday.

The program is also financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with 127 million US dollars and the Moroccan government with 47 million U.S. dollars. (more…)

Going Green: Morocco Bans Use Of Plastic Bags

As a ban on the production and use of plastic bags comes into effect across Morocco on Friday, green campaigners say that the country’s consumers may need years to fully comply with the new law.

A landmark bill passed by the Moroccan parliament last October banned the production, import, sale and distribution of plastic bags across the country.

The bill, which became law on July 1, is part of a larger environmentally conscious effort across the North African country to go green. (more…)

Morocco’s Grain Output Falls To 68 Million Quintals In 2014

RABAT, July 24 (BERNAMA-NNN-MAP) — Morocco’s grain output fell to 68 million quintals (6.8 million tonnes) this year from 97 million quintals in 2013, which was an exceptional crop year, says Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Aziz Akhannouch.

During the current crop year, farmers harvested 37 million quintals of wheat, 17 million quintals of barley and 14 million quintals of durum wheat, the minister said here Tuesday. (more…)

Fastnet to attract a major partner for Moroccan gas assets

Fastnet Oil and Gas is expecting to seal a deal with a development partner for its highly-rated onshore Moroccan assets before the end of the year.

The news follows the Dublin-based explorer significantly improving the terms of its licensing agreement regarding the onshore Tendrara-Lakbir project, which covers an area of around 14,500sq km in the north-east of Morocco.

It emerged, last year, that the Tendrara licence could hold more than double the amount of reserves than first anticipated and be worth nearly €45m to Fastnet. (more…)

Shares in Chariot Oil (LON:CHAR) rose 10% after it revealed it had brought in a big-hitting partner in the form of Woodside for its Rabat Deep permit off the coast of Morocco.

The Aussie explorer has agreed to pay the back costs of a 3D seismic survey on the acreage and pay for further data acquisition for a 25% stake, leaving Chariot with 50%. (more…)
