The Moroccan insurance industry is one of the largest in the Arab region, and the second-largest in Africa. Insurance penetration in Morocco stood at 3.03% in 2013, while the premium per capita stood at MAD815.4. Morocco’s insurance penetration was the region’s highest in 2013 despite low income levels and unfavorable demographics. Last week Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, leader of Islamic State (IS), announced that the terrorist group would expand in other Middle Eastern countries, including Algeria. The North African country practically stayed out of the Arab Spring and looked ready to take a huge step forward for peace and development. But now as the Jund al-Khilafah (’Soldiers of the Caliphate in Algeria’) officially has split from ‘Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb’ (AQIM) group and joined the global jihad of IS, the situation could change radically in the country. Tunisia Boosts Intelligence Capacity

[AFP/Fethi Belaid] Tunisian Defence Minister Ghazi Jeribi on November 20, 2014 announced the launch of a new security agency.

To eradicate terrorism, the Tunisian government is putting military and civil intelligence under one umbrella.

Tunisia on Tuesday (November 20th) established the Intelligence, Security and Defence Agency under the Ministry of Defence. (more…)

Moroccan Acquires 40% Stake In Nigeria’s Unitrust


Saham Finances, a subsidiary of Groupe Saham owned by Moulay Hafid Elalamy, a Moroccan tycoon and current trade and industry minister, has acquired a 40 percent stake in Nigerian non-life insurance company, Unitrust Insurance Company Limited. Unitrust was established and licensed in 1986 to operate as an insurer in Nigeria and it presently carries out all forms of general/ non-life insurance transactions. (more…)
