Spanish police arrest a suspect
Spanish police said Thursday they have smashed a major heroin smuggling ring with the arrest of 36 people and the seizure of two million euros ($2.5 million) worth of heroin.
The gang is suspected of selling heroin to other traffickers in Spain’s wealthy northeastern region of Catalonia as well as directly to users, Catalan police said in a statement. (more…)
Citrus exports (especially clementines) from Morocco to the EU are growing. Right now, when the international market is most alert due to the Russian ban on European imports of horticultural products (which can affect the coming campaign), the North African country has increased its citrus shipments to Europe by 32%. The Moroccan export of clementines, the most produced and exported by Castellón, has actually increased by 45% from January to July this year. (more…)

Abu Dhabi-listed Etisalat reported a 22 percent rise in third-quarter net profit on Wednesday as rising domestic income, lower taxes and the firm’s takeover of Maroc Telecom bolstered its bottom line.
The United Arab Emirates’ former telecommunications monopoly, which operates in 19 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, made a net profit of 2.22 billion dirhams ($598.97 million) in the three months to Sept. 30, it said. (more…)
Moroccan authorities on Wednesday seized two tons and 390 kg of cannabis in the northern port of Tangiers, official news agency MAP reported.
The drug was found in a truck heading to Spain during a routine inspection operation, the report said, adding that the driver and his assistant were arrested and an investigation has been launched. (more…)
